Database Reference
In-Depth Information
Figure 14-16. The new layout is similar to your existing Expenses layout. To get a jumpstart, you
duplicate that layout and then change some objects to fit the new context. You'll also create brand
new objects from scratch. Much of your real-world development will follow a similar mix of copy-
ing and editing existing elements and adding new ones from scratch.
Duplicating and Editing an Existing Layout
Even though they're from different contexts, the Expenses and Assign Expenses layouts have
many of the same objects on them. Your databases will look more polished, and you'll save
time, if you copy similar elements whenever you can. In this case, duplicating a layout will
keep a handful of elements in the exact same locations, so that when you switch from layout
to layout, you're immediately oriented by seeing similar onscreen elements in the same spot
on every layout. Here's how to copy a layout and change a field reference:
1. Go to the Expenses layout and then switch to Layout mode .
You're setting up the element you want to copy.
2. Choose Layouts Duplicate Layout .
The layout is duplicated along with all its objects. The new layout has the same name
as the original, except the word “Copy” is appended to the name.
