other 50 choices don't appeal to you, go with Enlightened, the first one on the list. You'll get the
most basic black and white layout available.
Touch Themes
A handful of the themes FileMaker offers have the word “touch” in their titles. These themes
are used to facilitate the construction of layouts optimized for use with FileMaker Go on iOS
touchscreens. The larger font and object sizes in the touch layouts are more conducive to fin-
ger based navigation. Hop ahead to Chapter 20 for details on FileMaker Go.
Styles
Themes aim to make a layout look neat and attractive by giving all elements a unified look.
The finer details of that unified design are the styles that comprise each theme. A style is a
set of formatting attributes that apply to a given kind of layout object, like a field or a button.
Depending on the layout object, a style can define its fill color, line size, corner roundness,
font size, and many other characteristics. Essentially, anything you can define on the Inspect-
or's Appearance tab can be part of a style.
Every time you add an object to a layout, FileMaker automatically formats it with the default
style for the object type in that layout's theme. Suppose the layout you're working on is us-
