In-Depth Information
server, you set up an account (with a name and password) for authorized administrators. Just
enter the User Name and Password you want to use. You have to type the password twice so
FileMaker can be sure you didn't mistype it. Then click Next.
Figure 19-5. The Deployment Assistant walks you through the steps you need to take to configure
your FileMaker Server. The first step is creating an admin account. You'll use this information any-
time you need to log into the Admin Console.
The Identification window lets you fill in a little information about your server ( Figure 19-6 ) .
The Server Name is required, but the description is optional.
The next page asks if you want to use ODBC/JDBC and Web Publishing with your server.
The ODBC/JDBC option has nothing to do with ESS, ODBC Import, or the Execute SQL
script step: You're always free to use these features. Instead, this setting controls whether
other programs can talk to FileMaker using ODBC or JDBC. If you don't need this ability,
then keep this option turned off. (You can always turn it on later.)
If this is just a plain-vanilla FileMaker Server for FileMaker users only, turn the Web Pub-
lishing option off. But if you'll share any database by using a browser, turn it on and choose
which web technologies you want to enable. Your choices are XML, FileMaker WebDirect,
and PHP.
