It is possible to extend thirty-day and sixty-day visas by thirty days once you're in In-
donesia. Immigration offices ( kantor imigrasi ) in Bali - in Denpasar , Kuta and Lovina - and
in Mataram on Lombok will all do this for you, though the speed of service varies; you need
to apply at least a week before your existing visa expires. The price should be $25, with an
extra $15-20 levied locally if you want your paperwork fast-tracked. At the time of writing
the fastest standard processing time is at Mataram (24hr, or less than 3hr for the fast-track
option); the Kuta and Singaraja offices take a week. You will need to fill out various easy
forms, submit two passport photos and pay to have relevant passport pages photocopied.
Penalties for overstaying your visa are severe. On departure, you'll be fined $20 for each
day you've overstayed up to a limit of sixty days. If you've exceeded the sixty-day barrier
you're liable for a five-year prison sentence or a fine of Rp25,000,000.
