In-Depth Information
North of Kuta on the Sengkol road are a couple of traditional Sasak villages that welcome
tourists. Of the two, the northernmost, REMBITAN , 7km from Kuta, is the more authentic
and the less grasping; with a good guide you'll learn a lot. As with other such villages in north
Bali, the thirty homes here are simple, low-roofed windowless constructions, with mud and
buffalo-dung floors, bamboo walls and thatched roofs. Some have satellite TV but bathrooms
are communal. Villagers farm soya beans and rice and weave cloth and make basketware,
some of which is for sale.
The other traditional village is SADE , 1km south. It sees hordes of visitors, is more of a
shopping and photo opportunity, and has a reputation for hassle.

the airport is Rp150,000; Mataram or Lembar port Rp125,000; Senggigi Rp150,000; Bangsal
