In-Depth Information
The waterfalls
The main local attraction is the trek through ricefields to the local monkey forest and Jukut
waterfall (entry Rp20,000), where the water streams down a towering jungle-clad rock face
into a pool 20m below. Any guesthouse can organize this as a six-hour return trip: Pondok
Tetebatu quotes Rp150,000 per person including ticket. With your own transport you can also
travel by road to the falls car park (6km), from where it's 1.5km on foot. The twin cascades
of Tibu Topat , northwest of the village, are a pretty alternative, with a sunlit pool for swim-
ming: the three-hour return trek through the fields costs Rp80,000 per person. Also to the
northwest, Joben waterfall , or Otak Kokok Gading, is small and much less impressive.
Kotaraja and Loyok
With transport you can explore the town of Kotaraja , about 5km south of Tetebatu, which is
known for its blacksmiths and for its traditional stickfighting , peresean (see Senggigi fest-
ival ) , held in August, and nearby Loyok , a centre for bamboo basketware .
