BY SLOW BOAT
The cheapest but most time-consuming option is to take the public car ferry from Padang Bai
to the west Lombok port of Lembar, then continue by bemos to Bangsal for the public boat
to the Gilis. Perama shuttle buses make use of this connection, linking Bali's main tourist
centres to those on Lombok.
Destinations Candidasa (Bali; 2 daily; 8hr); Kuta/Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali; 2 daily; 9hr

FROM LOMBOK
On Lombok, the main port for the Gili Islands is Bangsal ; here you'll find the cheapest and
most frequent service to and from all three islands (Rp10,000-13,000 on public boats), but
it's famous for its hassle especially in high season. Keep your cool - the Gilis are worth it.
Taxis and shuttle buses stop at the car park and barrier 500m from the harbour, from where
you can either walk or take a cidomo; expect to pay Rp5000/person and Rp5000/large bag.
The ticket office (8am-5.30pm) for all boats to the islands is on the seafront, to your left
once you reach the harbour; ignore all other sellers and only buy your ticket from this large,
clearly signed building, which displays a printed price list covering public boats, shuttles and
charters. Ideally, get your own bag onto and off the boats; if you can't, negotiate with the
porters before you let them touch the bags - and be clear whether you're talking about rupiah
or dollars, and for one bag or for the whole lot.
By public boat to the Gilis Public boats to Gili Air (20min; Rp10,000), Gili Meno (30min;
Rp12,000) and Gili Trawangan (45min; Rp13,000) leave from Bangsal throughout the day,
setting off when full between 7.30am and 5pm. The only public boats with fixed departure
times are the 2pm and 5pm boats to Gili Meno (Rp20,000). There's also a speedboat service
to Gili Meno (Rp500,000). There are also direct fast boats from Senggigi to the Gilis.
Returning by public boat from the Gilis Returning from the Gilis, shuttle boats depart the
islands about 8am and take you to Bangsal, where they're timed to connect with prebooked
through-transport to Mataram/Senggigi (Rp100,000 inclusive), Lembar (Rp125,000), Senaru
(Rp195,000) and Kuta, Lombok (Rp200,000); this option is cheaper than using a taxi and
avoids having to negotiate with transport touts at Bangsal. Shuttle buses and metered tax-
is wait near the barrier, a short walk or cidomo ride away. If you plan to travel by metered
taxi (Blue Bird 0370 627000,
