fan and a/c bungalows here are nicely furnished but have fairly basic hot-water bathrooms;

attractive bungalows in a beachside compound, each with traditional thatch-and-bamboo ex-
teriors, and all mod cons inside (DVD, a/c and safety box) plus nice hot-water bathrooms.
There's a lovely pool, too. The two “backpacker rooms” are small and basic, with fans.

paddy fields, 300m inland from the main road opposite the Jayakarta hotel. The nine simple

MANGSIT AND KLUI
With just half a dozen beachfront hotels, a couple of tiny shops and a mosque, the beach is
the focus at Mangsit, 4km north of central Senggigi; it has decent snorkelling at the northern
end. Bemos shuttle into central Senggigi until 6pm, as do metered taxis. White-sand Klui,
north over the headland from Mangsit, is very quiet.

resort on the attractive Klui beach. Most of the “suites” have sea views throug h the ir picture
windows, and there's an infinity pool and fine vistas of Bali's Gunung Agung. $205
Qunci Villas Jl Raya Mangsit 0370 693800, quncivillas.com . Hugely popular design-
conscious beachfront hotel, with 73 rooms done out in cool, understated limestone and with
original art on the walls. Th eir p ool villas are a little more upscale, with a luxurious pool, but
all rooms get rave reviews. $157
Windy Beach Resort Jl Raya Mangsit 0370 693191, windybeach.com . Idyllically
located on the nicest stretch of beach near Senggigi - a 300m chunk of white-sand shoreline
at the northern end of Mangsit - this is the perfect place to wind down. The traditional-style
bungalows with hot-water bathrooms are comfortable and set within an expan siv e tropical
garden. There's a good pool, plus a kids' pool, and decent snorkelling offshore. $61
EATING AND NIGHTLIFE
As you'd expect, central Senggigi has the biggest concentration of restaurants , but Batu Bo-
long, with its candlelit tables and flaming torches on the beach, is the most atmospheric place
