SENGGIGI FESTIVAL
The annual
Senggigi festival
is well worth making the effort to get to, featuring several
days of Lombok cultural performances, including classical dances, traditional stickfighting
(
peresean
), costumed parades and music. It's usually, but not always, held in July, in Seng-

Senggigi's one sight is the lovely small Balinese temple
Pura Batu Bolong
, which crowns
a promontory at the southern end of Batu Bolong beach. It's built over an archway in the
rock, the hole through which virgins were once supposedly sacrificed to appease the gods.
Nowadays, when the tide is right, it offers access to Batu Layar Beach and its famous fish
restaurant
