run retreat, dedicated to “the art of doing nothing”. The four huge bungalows all have sea
views and there's also a backpackers' berugaq dorm with mattresses and nets (Rp250,000/
person). The delicious meals are eaten communally and are incl uded in the price, together
with a pick-up from Tembowong, snorkel gear and yoga sessions. $66
PELANGAN

the coast, Bola Bola Paradis has immaculate, idiosyncratic fan and cold-water rooms in two
simple but well-thought-out octagonal buildings, plus three in the main building. Nearly all
of them come with views over the neat seafront flower garden, though unfortunately they're
close to quite a busy road. Boat trips are available. The attached restaurant is pricey but ex-
cellent, cooking up a long and inventive menu that includes ayam tali wang (ch illi-fried Sasak
chicken, Rp60,000) and fritto misto (deep-fried seafood, Rp70,000). Rp465,000

Palm Beach Gardens is on the shore about 400m off the main road towards the west end
of the village. Set beneath the coconut palms are five exceptionally good-value bungalows,
all with sea views, fans and cold-water bathrooms; there is internet access, a good restaur-
ant and sn orkel trips. Booking is vital; phone ahead for transport from Lembar (Rp175,000).

LABUHAN POH AND AROUND
The 13km stretch of road between Pelangan and Bangko Bangko, at the end of the peninsula,
only has a few hotels for the tourists and surf enthusiasts that make it this far; booking accom-
modation ahead is a good idea. Staff at every place to stay can arrange motorbike rental and
snorkelling trips (Rp300,000/boat). Though not all have formal restaurants, they all provide
meals on request.
