Akar Café Jl Pantai Binaria, Kalibukbuk 0362 343 5636. Green in decor and ethics, this
cute vegetarian café has an excellently varied menu that includes Middle Eastern meze plates
(Rp58,000), lasagnas and salads, and the likes of Indian chickpea, aubergine and spinach
curry (Rp55,000), plus health juices, teas and ice creams. Pretty garden behind, too. Daily
7am-10pm.
Bakery Lovina Jl Raya Singaraja, Kalibukbuk 0362 42225. European charcuterie or
cheese-sharing platters (Rp170,000), pizzas and fresh-bread sandwiches with paté, imported
cheeses or chorizo (from Rp35,000), plus breakfasts and croissants are the go-to options on a
menu that also includes Indonesian favourites. Daily 7am-10pm.
Bali Panorama Mayong 0821 4704 9827. While the Indonesian standards such as gado-
gado (Rp25,000) are tasty and largely organic, the joys of this little roadside place is the
lovely paddyfield views and relaxed ambience - a lovely lunch stop on a day-trip drive from
Lovina . Daily 9am-6.30pm.
The Damai The Damai hotel, Kayu Putih 0362 41008. The most exquisite dining in
northern Bali, where an imaginative, award-winning fusion menu uses fresh seafood and or-
ganic produce from the garden and changes daily; expect dishes like braised pork with sweet
soy, cinnamon and star anise. For a splurge introduction go for three courses for Rp380,000.
Free transport from the Lovina area. Daily 6-11pm.
Jasmine Kitchen Off Jl Bina Ria, Kalibukbuk 0362 41565. Specials like penang curry
with prawns or green beans flavoured with lime leaves typify the above-average Thai food in
this classy small place. It's also a pleasant spot to enjoy fresh-pressed juices or coconut ice
cream while reading the newspapers, too. Daily 9am-11pm.
Le Madre Jl Mawar, Kalibukbuk 0362 343 5553. With a chef formerly at an upscale Itali-
an restaurant in Seminyak, this small garden restaurant serves pastas, home-made bruschetta
and pizzas, plus the likes of crumbed aubergine with chilli and mozzarella (Rp40,000). Also
has a few Indonesian dishes. Daily 9am-10pm.
