A DAY-TRIP DRIVE FROM LOVINA
For a day-trip from Lovina with your own transport, there's a scenic inland drive through
the countryside south of Seririt , 12km west of Lovina, initially along the Denpasar road.
The road climbs through paddyfields then splits after 7km at Rangdu . The right-hand fork
heads across the mountains via Pupuan to the south coast. However, the left goes through
Mayong, home to Bali Panorama a small warung with scenic views, towards Munduk then
on to Danau Tamblingan and Danau Buyan.
Just beyond Mayong, take a small left turn for “Desa Bestala”, which leads to the village
of Bestala . Turn left by the statue of the independence fighter, then wind down into the
valley, across the river and up the other side to the hamlet of Munduk Bestala , famous for
its durians; January and February are the main season. Turn right at the T-junction in the
village, and if you've a decent map it's possible to navigate to Pedawa and Sidetapa , two
traditional Bali Aga villages that still retain their narrow lanes and high-walled compounds.
Adjani and Komang Dodi in Lovina provide guided walks in the Sidetapa area, as well as
transport (see Getting around ).
