< Back to North Bali and the central volcanoes
Lovina and around
It may be north Bali's primary beach resort but LOVINA remains a low-rise, low-key sort
of place, especially when compared to its south Bali counterparts. It stretches behind 8km of
grey-sand beach, encompassing seven merged villages. Kalibukbuk , set between two side
roads and lined with an oceanfront walkway, is the heart of Lovina, bursting with accom-
modation, restaurants and facilities. East of Kalibukbuk, the Banyualit side road, Jalan Lavi-
ana, runs down to the sea and is quiet and green, with banana palms still dotted between the
various small warung and hotels. It's favoured by long-stay and older tourists from northern
Europe. There's more of a backpacker vibe in village of Anturan , 1.5km east of Banyualit. A
more ramshackle place, it's quieter than Kalibukbuk and accommodation is slightly cheaper,
with most places on or very close to the village beach. There's snorkellable reef in front of
Kubu Lalang , and the Perama office is nearby. Finally, Anturan peters out and ricefields take
over and you're officially in the village of Pemaron .
