on the rim of Batur I. Allow two to three hours to get to the top from either start and about
half that time to get back down; sunrise treks up this route depart at about 4am. Though you
could just as easily leave later and go for the view from halfway up - it's no less impressive.
A
medium-length trek
involves Batur I, a walk around its rim, then descent by another
route. The
long-trek
option, sometimes called the
Exploration
(about 8hr in total) involves
Batur I, walking to the western side, then descending to Batur II, Batur III and down to Toya
Bungkah or Yehmampeh.
