tractively furnished hot-water bungalows on the crown of the hill, with fine views across to

basic rooms (one family-sized) with hot water in a small family compound with fine views
of Lempu yang. It's a steep 10min walk down to the village; phone for a pick-up from Tir-

Puri Sawah 0363 22342. Set off the main road, this British-Balinese-run place has a great
restaurant, the Rice Terrace Coffee Shop , and four nicely furnished rooms (one with hot wa-
ter). Upstairs rooms are lightest and have the best views. Rp300,000

where once the raja would stay, this has just five luxurious Bali-style villas and a swimming
pool . Villas have sunken bathtubs and verandas, but the views are mainly from the restaurant.

EATING
Good Karma 0363 22445. Choose from a big tourist menu (mains from Rp40,000) that
also includes Balinese specialities like dendang be siap (roast chicken, potatoes and spicy
bumbu sauce, Rp55,000). Daily 7am-10pm.
Makoto Ryoshi 0812 368 2791. A Japanese café with tip-top views to the distant Lombok
Strait. On the menu are udon and soba noodle dishes (Rp30,000), including chilled zaru soba
noodles, plus chicken teriyaki (Rp35,000). Ask to try the potent home-brewed sochu and
sake. Daily 10am-9pm.
Rice Terrace Coffee Shop 0363 21847. Excellent baguettes plus salads, baked pota-
toes, delicious cheesy crêpes (Rp41,000), plenty of vegetarian choices, kids' sausage and
chips and the best apple crumble around. Daily 7am-9pm.
