a relaxed, arty vibe - jazz on the sound system, live music twice monthly, Van Gogh repros
on the walls and a separate lounge bar, dining room and garden restaurant. The food is great:
fresh and scrumptious seafood and Greek salads, pan-fried potatoes with all main dishes,
calamari Parmigiano and the signature chocolate mousse cake to round it all off. Mains cost
Rp70,000-170,000 and imported wines start at Rp40,000/glass. Arrive early or reserve for

Warung Astawa Jl Raya Candidasa 0363 41363. You get excellent value at this typical
streetfront tourist warung, with set three-course meals of Indonesian standard dishes with
pork, chicken or fish from Rp65,000. Daily 7am-10pm.

from more than seventy Balinese, Indonesian and international dishes, including good steaks,
sate served on a mini-grill and poached mahi-mahi (Rp65,000), plus vegetarian and nut- and
wheat-free options. Check for events such as suckling pig specials or beer festivals. Free loc-

BUITAN AND MANGGIS

ing experience in eastern Bali features a delectable range of Asian, fusion and vegetarian
dishes, with plenty of local specialities - right down to the salt. Try a papaya jackfruit curry
with coconut milk (Rp135,000), the bebek betutu marinated duck (Rp640,000 for two) or
the signature megibung eight-dish feast, which includes spicy beef, chicken sate and snapper

Warung Made Buitan. A cheap and cheerful place on the road to the beach, with breakfast,
Indonesian and Western favourites and local seafood. The rendang babi (pork coconut
stew, Rp30,000) and megibung mixed Balinese dishes (Rp75,000) are recommended. Daily
7am-9pm.

expats and tourists, this pub and restaurant has a pool table and an open kitchen serving good
Indonesian and Western classics. There's live reggae, rock and pop music on Mondays and
Thursdays, while on Saturdays Balinese fire and Legong dancing are displayed. Free shuttle
