food in this traditional shopfront restaurant since 1943. His specialities are the delicious ko lo
bak sweet-sour pork for Rp30,000 and vegetarian cap cai for Rp15,000. Daily 8am-8.30pm.
Klungkung Tower Hotel Jl Gunung Rinjani 18 0366 25637, tower-
hotel07@yahoo.co.id . Most tourists visit for just a few hours, but Klungkung Tower Hotel
has nicely decorated, a/c rooms with hot-water bathrooms and street-view verandas. Climb
to the top of the tower for a panoramic view. Home to the Pur i Ajengan restaurant (daily
6am-9pm) which serves chicken steak or tom yam for Rp15,000. Rp225,000
Pasar Senggol night market Jl Gunung Rinjani. The hot-food stalls of the lively night mar-
ket occupy the western end of Jl Gunung Rinjani after dark. Daily 5-10pm.
Sumber Rasa Jl Nakula 5 0366 25097. A pleasant little Chinese shop-cum-restaurant op-
posite the market building with good ko lo kee sweet-sour chicken (Rp25,000). While you're
here buy some soap, a pen or some Chinese decoration materials. Daily 7am-7pm.
SHOPPING
Duta Textile Jl Diponegoro 71 085 338566. One of several shops along this street spe-
cializing in textiles, Duta stocks exceptional silk and cotton sarongs and shimmering kebaya
material. The walls are completely covered by colourful textiles, and staff are helpful and pa-
tient. Daily 8am-6pm.
Pasar Umum Semarapura Semarapura's important market, Pasar Umum Semarapura, is
well worth a browse. The market is at its largest and busiest every three days, but even on
normal days it's a fun place to shop, especially good for songket fabric and offering baskets,
as well as the usual sarongs, kids' toys and fruit and vegetables. Daily dawn-around 1pm.

Gunung Agung
Visible throughout eastern Bali and even from Nusa Lembongan and west Lombok across
the sea, the classic volcanic cone of Gunung Agung is a majestic presence from any angle.
It is the spiritual centre of the island: Balinese people believe the spirits of their ancestors
