In-Depth Information
Campuhan and Sanggingan
Sited at the confluence of the rivers Wos Barat and Wos Timor, the hamlet of
CAMPUHAN
(pronounced
cham-poo-han
) extends west from Ubud as far as the
Hotel Tjampuhan
, and is
famous as the home of several of Bali's most charismatic expatriate painters, including the
late
Antonio Blanco
, whose house and gallery have been turned into a museum; the late
Wal-
ter Spies
, whose villa remains inside the
Hotel Tjampuhan
; and
Symon
, who still paints at
his studio-gallery across the road from the hotel.
North up the hill, Campuhan turns into
SANGGINGAN
(though few people bother to dis-
tinguish it from its neighbour), and it's here that you'll find Bali's best art gallery, the
Neka
Art Museum
.
