In-Depth Information
In theory buses run every 30min from 5am-9pm. Current flat-rate fares are Rp3500. A new
Sanur-Ngurah Rai Airport route should be up and running by the time you read this.
By boat Sanur is the main departure point for boats to Nusa Lembongan. From a jetty in
north Sanur public and private ferries run to Jungutbatu (at least 8 daily; 40min-2hr) and
Mushroom Bay (1-3 daily; 40min-2hr). Benoa Harbour (Pelabuhan Benoa), 5km southwest
of southern Sanur, is the arrival and departure point for many sailing trips and tourist boats,
including fast boats to the Gili Islands and day-trips to Nusa Lembongan , as well as for all
Pelni ships from elsewhere in Indonesia; buy tickets for Pelni ships in advance, either through
travel agents or at their offices in Benoa Harbour (Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, Sat 8am-12.30pm;
0361 821377) or Kuta.
By taxi A taxi ride from central Kuta or Denpasar should cost Rp80,000-100,000.
GETTING AROUND
By bemo The green and blue public bemos to and from Denpasar's terminals can be useful
for buzzing up and down the main streets; the tourist price is about Rp7000 for a local ride.
By taxi Light-blue Blue Bird taxis ( 0361 701111) have the best reputation of the metered
taxi companies; all charge an initial Rp6000, then Rp6000/km, day and night. If you're plan-
ning a long trip, consider negotiating a fee with one of the roadside transport touts.
By car or motorbike The transport touts also rent cars and motorbikes, as do many hotels
and tour agencies. JBA is one of the few Sanur agencies to sell car insurance, and will also
supply a car with driver; it's located at Jl Hang Tuah 54 in north Sanur ( 0361 286501,
jbabali.com ) .
By bike Sanur is a good bet for cyclists; most hotels and travel agents along Jl Danau Tam-
blingan have them for rent (around Rp20,000-30,000/day).
ACTIVITIES
Golf Though it's nothing to excite Tiger Woods, Sanur has the nine-hole Bali Beach Golf
Course in front of the Inna Grand Bali Beach ( 0361 287733, balibeachgolfcourse.com );
it's not cheap, though, at $90 a round.
Kitesurfing Bali's only kitesurf shop and school, Kite & Surf Bali ( 0361 789 9013, bali-
kitesurfing.org ) at Jl Cemara 72 offering lessons for beginners and advanced pupils (from
Rp900,000 for 2hr), plus gear rental and kitesurf tours.
Spas and beauty treatments Most of Sanur's more expensive hotels have luxurious spas
open to the public and offer a range of treatments including aromatherapy, reflexology and
traditional Balinese massages, and the Javanese mandi lulur exfoliation scrub, as well as fa-
cials and hair treatments. Alternatively, there's always the massage-and-manicure ladies who
hang out on the beach, charging Rp60,000 for a 30min massage.
