In-Depth Information
By shuttle bus A free shuttle bus to the Bali Collection shopping centre loops around the
big hotels and shops (approximately hourly, 10am-9pm). Some hotels also run their own free
transport.
By taxi Metered taxis (an initial Rp6000, then Rp6000/km) circulate constantly.
By bike The flat terrain makes cycling a good option; large hotels provide rental.
On foot The shortest route between hotels is nearly always via the paved beachfront walk-
way; it takes around 2hr to walk the entire length.
ACTIVITIES
Birdwatching An early morning at the ponds around the mangrove swamp to the north and
west of Nusa Dua's North Gate can yield several species of kingfisher, as well as lots of wa-
ter birds including white-vented Javan mynahs, Sunda teals and white-browed crakes.
Camel rides Bali Camel Safaris ( 0361 776755, balicamelsafaris.com ; from $20 for
30min) operates on the beach near the Nikko Bali Resort and Spa , near Pantai Geger.
Cooking lessons Balinese cooking lessons from $80 are offered at the excellent Bumbu Bali
restaurant in Tanjung Benoa (Mon, Wed & Fri; 0361 771256, balifoods.com ); you'll
start at the local market at 6am and wrap things up with lunch by 2pm.
Diving There are several PADI Dive Centres in the area; Bali Scuba Masters is at Jl Pratama
85 ( 0361 777156, baliscubamasters.com ) and Waterworld has counters at The Laguna
and The Westin Resort . There is better choice in Sanur.
Golf Renovated in 2013, the world-class, eighteen-hole, championship Bali Golf and Coun-
try Club ( 0361 771791) dominates the southern end of Nusa Dua beside the sea. Nick
Faldo and Colin Montgomery are fans, apparently.
Kitesurfing Bali Kite Surf ( 0811 393919, balikitesurf.com ) offers lessons for beginners
and advanced pupils on Pantai Geger, plus tours of the island to the best kitesurfing locations
(from Rp900,000 for 2hr).
Snorkelling Not the most inspiring snorkelling trips: all boats make for White Tower reef
just offshore, where fish gather to gorge on the bread they're fed throughout the day.
Surfing The main Nusa Dua surf break is a right-hander about 1km offshore (accessible by
boat from a signposted point south of the Ayodya Resort and the golf course), while further
north, a short paddle beyond the Club Med Bali , “Sri Lanka” is a short, speedy right-hander.
Watersports Tanjung Benoa is south Bali's watersports playground, with parasailing, water-
skiing, jet-skiing, kayaking, wakeboarding, banana boating and all the rest offered by at least
a dozen shorefront watersports centres. Prices are uniformly Rp250,000-380,000/15min ses-
sion.
