ACCOMMODATION
Four Seasons Resort South Jimbaran 0361 701010, fourseasons.com/jimbaranbay .
One of Southeast Asia's top hotels, with accommodation in Balinese-style villas with indoor
and outdoor living areas and private plunge pools, many with sea views, and facilities includ-
ing a cli fftop infinity-edge swimming pool, a spa, tennis courts, a kids' club and babysitting
service. $990
Jimbaran Puri Bali Jl Yoga Perkanti 0361 701605, jimbaranpuribali.com . Stylish
boutique hotel of the Belmond (ex-Orient Express) group with 42 cottages and gorgeous vil-
las with pools, all private and in fabulous grounds. Understated sophistication rules here -
and the dark wood, crisp white cotton and Balinese decoration give it a touch of neocoloni-
aism. N atura lly, it has all the mod cons, a large pool and spa on the beachfront and faultless
service. $556
Puri Bambu Jl Pengeracikan 0361 701468, hotelpuribambu.com . Because the beach is
about 100m away, this mid-range place remains affordable for its location. Its 48 a/c rooms
are around a series of garden courtyards, one with a g ood -sized pool. Upper-storey rooms are
brighter; Superiors are worth the extra $10 for space. $95
Villa Bali Jegey Jl Pantai Sarai 23 0361 708524, villabalijegeg@yahoo.com . While
Standard rooms are compact and decor is plain, accommodation in this family hotel is mo d-
ern, bright and clean, there are two pools and the beach is less than 100m away. Rp450,000
EATING AND DRINKING
Jimbaran's famous seafood warung are in three clusters on the beach: north, middle and
south, between the Intercontinental Bali Resort and Four Seasons Resort . The setup is similar
throughout - a few tables above and on the sand and a menu of lobster, prawns, fish, squid
and crab grilled in the warung behind - so simply select whichever takes your fancy. The
caveat is that some offer set prices, others price dishes by weight (determine the price before
cooking starts). Food is served from noon, but the warung are at their liveliest from sunset .
Most also offer simple Indonesian dishes and grilled meat.
Cuca Jl Yoga Perkanthi 0361 708066. Excellent sharing plates created from fresh pro-
duce in the stylish restaurant of an American chef, formerly of three-star Michelin restaurants
including Spain's El Bulli . Think fine dining with a twist - ceviche (Rp90,000) or barbecue
octopus with Asian gazpacho (Rp70,000) - and expect to eat three plates/person. The garden
is a lovely spot for a pre- or postmeal drink. Daily noon-midnight.
Jaya Semapura Jl Raya Uluwatu 33 0361 999 3420. A no-frills local place with a long
menu of Chinese and Indonesian dishes - mostly chicken or seafood, with the likes of ayam
goreng (fried chicken) with spicy sambal and ikan bakar - all priced Rp19,000-25,000. Daily
9am-9pm.
