imaginative setting of a bale beside a ricefield. Fish is the speciality, with the menu changing
daily depending on the catch - kingfish ceviche starter (Rp85,000) and miso-grilled mahi-
mahi (Rp175,000) are typical. Daily 1-4pm & 6pm-midnight.

tingle the tastebuds - Aceh lamb cooked over a coconut chargrill or turmeric crispy fish
(Rp120,000) - in a consistently excellent high-end Kerobokan restaurant. With its plush neo-
colonial style and open sides, the elegant dining room is a delight by candlelight. Daily

Betel Nut Café Jl Batu Bolong 60 0821 4680 7233 (SMS only); map . Popular travellers'
hangout split between a small a/c interior and an airy upper deck. Either way, you're here for
a healthy menu: whole coconuts, fresh juices, salads, wraps and a great selection of burgers
(Rp50,000) - fresh fish, veggie, beetroot patties and good old beef. Tues-Sun 7am-10pm.
Desa Seni Jl Kayu Putih 13, Pantai Berewa; map . Fresh and organic are watchwords in the
restaurant of this boutique hotel; many of the vegetables are grown on site, while dishes like
seafood in coconut milk and lemongrass (mostly Rp65,000) are delicious. Also offers salads
and pastas in the same relaxing setting. Daily noon-11pm.
Kakilma Jl Pantai Batu Bolong 0361 431 1706; map . By far the best bet along this stretch
of sand for beach-chic romance - floaty drapes waft, lamps hang in old birdcages - as-
tonishing sunsets and garden space for the kids to play. On the menu is tapas (Rp50,000)
like calamari, hummus and smoked eggplant and larger plates such as garlic-butter prawns
(Rp80,000). Tues-Sun noon-10pm.
Mandira Jl Pura Batu Mejan; map . The standard tourist menu of club sandwiches, burgers
and Indonesian dishes like gado-gado (mains Rp30,000-50,000) is fine, but you're here for
the beachside location and reasonable prices - a good spot to bounce between the surf and a
Bintang. Daily 9am-10pm.
