Seminyak, Petitenget and Kerobokan
Given the excesses of Kuta and growing hustle in Legian, expats and style-conscious tourists
have shipped north to Seminyak and Petitenget . If upmarket hotels, bars, clubs, restaurants
and shops are your thing, this is your place, with things getting classier the further north you
go, especially beyond the temple in Petitenget; many of the style cognoscenti now say the
most sophisticated option here is the villages' northern neighbour, Kerobokan . Either way,
all neighbourhoods are popular with returning visitors, and rented villas are in demand. The
glut of restaurants along Jalan Kayu Aya, aka Jalan Laksmana, has christened it “Eat Street”,
yet even this has been eclipsed in style by the sophisticated dining experiences at the northern
end of Jalan Petitenget - head here for a meal with wow factor. Seminyak's Jalan Camplung
Tanduk is the area's centre for gay nightlife.
Style has arrived on the beach , too, with a scattering of beach clubs north of the temple at
Petitenget providing a venue for hipsters to laze for the day over good food and cocktails.
Even the beach north of Jalan Pantai Arjuna in north Legian makes a pleasant place to hang
out, fronted by a quiet road and with sunloungers and restaurants to shelter from the midday
heat. Indeed, due to the lack of direct road access Petitenget may have the quietest beaches in
the resort.
