Vocabulary Exercise: Matching
Match the definition on the left with a term on the right. This exercise is not necessarily a one-to-one matching. Some
definitions might be used more than once, and some terms might have multiple definitions. However, all terms and
definitions are used.
Definitions
Terms
a. Table that includes route entries for all destinations that the
router has learned
b. A route selected as the primary route to reach a destination
c. Shows directly connected routers with which the local router
has established adjacency
d. A backup route kept in the topology table in case the primary
route goes down
e. Used by EIGRP to discover, verify, and rediscover neighbor
routers
f. Describes a route that is in a reachable and operational status
g. Guarantees loop-free operation at every instant throughout a
route computation and allows all devices involved in a topol-
ogy change to synchronize at the same time
h. Table in which EIGRP places the routes it chooses from the
topology table as the best (successor) routes to a destination
i. Status of a route that has no feasible successors yet; router is
waiting on replies from EIGRP routers
j. Used by EIGRP to guarantee ordered delivery of both reli-
able and unreliable EIGRP packets to EIGRP neighbors
k. Used when a router discovers a new neighbor
l. Used when a router needs specific information from one or
all of its neighbors
m. A relationship formed between neighboring routers using a
common media segment for the purpose of exchanging rout-
ing information
n. The metric that a neighbor router advertises to the local
router about its own cost to a destination network
o. Used to respond to EIGRP packets sent reliably
p. A neighbor's reported distance (RD) to a network is less than
the local router's feasible distance to the same destination
network.
q. Lowest calculated metric to reach the destination network
r. Used to respond to an EIGRP query packet
s. Data field of an EIGRP packet with type, length, and value
specified
t. For EIGRP routing configuration, simply the inverse of the
subnet mask
