Of course, no overview of computer game history will be complete without the legendary
Pac-Man. The game was introduced in 1980 as a coin-operated game console and it was one
of the most popular computer games of its time. It is one of the icons of the 1980s and it
can still be found in 1980-style diners. The player controls Pac-Man through a maze, eating
pac-dots. Of course, the Pac-Man had to run away from the bad guys that can eat him.
1.7 Summary
The chapter introduced basic computer concepts, such as the different types of hardware
and software. It also described the different types of computer programming languages and
different ways a computer program can be executed. The chapter finished with a brief
overview of historical computer games.
