In 1965, Rhodesia declared itself an independent white-minority government free from Great Britain. Fol-
lowing a protracted guerrilla war, the white government agreed to democracy, leading to a black majority
government in 1978. The name was later changed to Zimbabwe Rhodesia and independence was formally
recognized in 1980. The country is now known as Zimbabwe.
