Ball Animation
You will start with a simple ball-and-paddle animation. The animation will be a
little reminiscent of a video game, but this is a video-game art book so that should
be okay. You will start by building a couple simple objects and then you will ani-
mate them. Bring up 3ds Max and get ready to animate!
1. Start by creating a box. Don't worry about getting the size of the box just
right—it only needs to be a narrow box that is quite a bit higher than it is
wide, as shown in Figure 8.2.

2. Next create a sphere that is much smaller than the box. Use Figure 8.3 to
compare the sizes to your box and sphere.
3. I created a texture for the box to make it look better. You can create one of
your own. The box will be a paddle, like in an early video game. Just make
up a texture that looks good to you. Figure 8.4 shows the paddle with the
texture.
