In-Depth Information
Drawing on a computer is much like drawing on paper, if you have the right hard-
ware. I like to use a Wacom Intuos tablet. Figure 1.8 shows the Intuos tablet in use.
The tablet uses a stylus pen that weighs about the same as a pencil and feels a lot
like one too. The stylus is pressure-sensitive so it reacts similarly to a real pencil.
The tablet is nice because it can be held in any position, like a sketchbook.
New touch-screen technology is also available for those who want to work directly
on the screen. Figure 1.9 shows the Wacom Cintiq tablet/monitor in use.
When you move the pen over the tablet, the cursor on the computer screen moves.
Just as when you click with a mouse button, you can select or execute commands
on the screen by touching the tip of the stylus to the tablet. Unlike the mouse,
however, the stylus has a pressure-sensitive tip, which paint programs use to sim-
ulate the pressure the artist uses in drawing.
