Creating the Runway
Every airplane needs a place to take off and land. Now you will create a runway just
for that purpose. The methods I will introduce here are the same ones you can use
to make roads, sidewalks, and various other items in a scene.
Now is a good time to either freeze or hide the sky box to make viewing easier and
so you don't accidentally select it.
1. Create a plane with the following attributes:
Length: 200.0
Width: 20.0
Length Segs: 30
Width Segs: 4
2. Place the runway slightly above the terrain (see Figure 5.11). I rotated mine
slightly.
3. Convert it to an Editable Poly and pull the sides down slightly.
4. Now move the runway so it sits with the edges slightly below the terrain
(see Figure 5.12).
