7. Open the Asset Browser and apply Texture_map.bmp to the plane
(see Figure 5.3).
8. Save the file as Terrain.max.

Creating the Sky Box
Next you can create a very simple, low-poly sky box. The sky box will be a back-
ground for your scene. It will include a texture for the sky with clouds. This box
will not be an actual box, though; it will be a hemisphere. The term “sky box” orig-
inally came about early in game development, when they were made of five-sided
boxes. This made for a very low-polygon sky box for the early game platforms.
1. Freeze the terrain. Don't forget to set the option in the Display tab to make
the terrain visible when frozen.
2. Next, make a sphere with the following attributes:
Radius: 1000.0
Segments: 20
Hemisphere: 0.5
