Figure 13-22. A Quick Filter configured to apply to all Sheets
Similarly, we'd like the slider at the bottom to change both the map and the bar chart, but we
don't want it to filter the timeline (otherwise, the timeline would just show one year for each
country in a tall column of 204 dots). To configure the year slider to behave accordingly,
we'll click the down arrow in the upper-right corner of the slider Quick Filter, select Apply to
Worksheets Selected Worksheets , and then check the boxes for Map (defaulted) and Rank ,
but not for Trend Line (the timeline).
Now, when we change the slider to 2008, we can see from Figure 13-23 that the map and bar
chart are both showing data for the year 2008.
One important thing to notice at this point is that, other than looking at the slider at the bot-
tom, it's not very clear that the map and bar chart are showing 2008 data. A user would have
to actually hover over the data point and read the tooltip to find out. This is a deficiency from
the annotation step, and we really should correct it. How can we add additional signage or
cues that indicate what year is shown?
