With the exception of the last bullet, these items can be added by simply dragging Text ob-
jects from the middle of the left panel onto the Dashboard. Depending on how you want the
text to appear, it can be either Tiled or Floating. Six different annotations have been added as
shown in
Figure 13-11
, highlighted in yellow for illustrative purposes.
All of the annotations we just created can be seen without any interaction. They act as sig-
nage to give context and explain what the dashboard is all about and how to use it.
Sometimes we want to add context to the data themselves. By default, Tableau adds tooltips
to each mark. Hovering over any mark results in a pop-up window that gives additional in-
formation about the mark. By default, the tooltips are functional but not very interesting

).
