Figure 13-1. World Bank Internet usage statistics by country, 1994-2012
At a glance, we can see that each country has an associated region, and both population and
Internet usage statistics for a variety of years, including more recent data from 2011 and
2012. Of course, the format that the data set is in doesn't facilitate communication with an
audience. That's where the skills we've learned in the first 12 chapters will be useful to craft
something more informative.
There are two different angles to the Internet usage topic:
Proportion
What is the number of Internet users per 100 people in a given country and year? (For
example, in China in 2012, there were 42.30 Internet users per 100 people.)
Quantity
How many total Internet users are there estimated to be in a given country and year? (For
example, China had an estimated 571M Internet users in 2012.)
