As these six advantages demonstrate, there is often a case to be made for creating a Dash-
board rather than showing individual Sheets in sequence over the course of a presentation.

A Word of Caution
Before we dive into data dashboards, let's pause for a moment and consider whether they're
even necessary. When communicating data, is it really useful to combine a number of differ-
ent visualizations into the same display? Won't that just overwhelm the audience? Overload-
ing the audience is a very real concern, and often the dashboard designer is tempted to add
more and more data to the display in a show of force.
As the epigraph to this chapter tells us, the best meals are often the least complicated, with
the fewest ingredients. So, too, the least complicated data displays often convey the message
