The Slopegraph
The following project was inspired by a blog post by Andy Kirk, who compares the change
in points earned by professional English soccer teams in the first 15 games of successive sea-
sons. [ 2 ]
If we only want to show changes in time of a number of different items from one point in
time to another, the slopegraph can be useful. Let's walk through how we can make this type
of chart in Tableau.
Step 1: Get the Data
League tables for each season up to a chosen game number are available online . The teams'
results up to game 15 for both the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 seasons were copied and pasted
into an Excel spreadsheet, with an added column for Year , as shown in Figure 9-26 .
