line, the more the player deviated from the typical ratio of shots to goals.
The Quadrant Chart
Another way to compare these same points is to divide the grid area into four sections in-
stead of two. I have a predilection for dividing everything into quadrants, so let's explore
how to do that now.
First, let's turn off the trend line by right-clicking in the grid area, selecting Trend Lines , and
deselecting Show Trend Lines . Next, let's create the four panels using reference lines as
we've done before.
How should we divide the plane into quadrants? Let's create horizontal and vertical lines at
the mean, or average values. This would allow us to determine right away if a player was
above or below the group averages for both shots and goals. To do that, we'll just right-click
in each of the axes and select Add Reference Line , completing the dialog boxes as shown in
Figure 8-20 .
