every quarter this being 12.5 per cent of the turnover of the LOC. The
Mathenjwa Community Trust, its directors and trustees are appointed to operate
the trust and spend the funds received on behalf of and in consultation with the
Mathenjwa community who live adjacent to the area of the coastal reserve where
Ndumo Wilderness Camp is located (Simpson, 2007).
In the case of Rocktail Bay Lodge there are in fact two communities virtually
equidistant from the lodge. In addition to the Mqobela community there is the
Mpukane community, of approximately 150 households, who are also located
adjacent to the area of the coastal reserve where the lodge is based. There are
different opinions as to where the borders of each community meet, suffice to say
that, whilst the lodge is within the coastal reserve, each community and its various
community leaders believe that the lodge's buildings lie either exactly on the
historical boundary line of the communities or just one side or the other. It is
believed that during the period that the arrangement was reached with the
Mqobela community regarding their ownership percentage of LOC and LOC#2,
there was some confusion in the Mpukane community with regard to leadership
