20.7 CONCLUSIONS
Without a realistic means to test the massive numbers of new nanoparticles, some of
these materials will be developed for public use before potential health risks are
identified. Proactive assessments performed in appropriate test models can help to
avoid this scenario and maintain consumer confidence. The platforms are in place and
the application of the rapid throughput embryonic zebrafish model will maximize
testing efficiency, minimizing the barriers to research, development, and marketing of
safer nanoparticles by design.
