In-Depth Information
Figure 11.3 Cell death assessed in heart and CNS and liver and kidney in 3 and 5dpf zebrafish,
respectively. Note: (1) autofluorescence, particularly in the yolk (white arrows in right panels) and nasal
placodes (white arrows inmiddle panels), was observed during exposure fluorescence light. (2) To highlight
the staining pattern observed in different organs, magnification varied from 4 to 10. (3) Heart effects
(left panels): white arrows show heart location. 17-DMAG induced cell death in the heart (red arrow).
HDAC inhibitor X, paclitaxel, and SMA-838 did not cause cell death in heart tissue. (4) CNS effects
(middle panels): 17-DMAG, HDAC inhibitor X, paclitaxel, and SMA-838 all induced cell death in brain
(yellow arrows). (5) Liver effects (right panels): 17-DMAG induced cell death in liver (blue arrows
show liver location). HDAC inhibitor X, paclitaxel, and SMA-838 did not induce cell death in liver.
However, GI tract staining (red arrow) was observed after treatment with 2000 mM of SMA-838.
(6) Kidney effects (right panels, green arrows), cell death was not observed for any test compound.
