the aquatic food web, along with production of a wide range of bioactive compounds of
considerable interest and value to mankind, mean they are increasingly attractive in a
world with pressures for renewable resources. With further exploration of the largely
untapped global microalgal biodiversity and genetic and technological improvements to
production systems, microalgal bioproducts will be a significant feature of a more
sustainable world.
