embolization. Surface-induced thrombosis on polymeric biomaterials is initiated by the
adsorption of plasma proteins, followed by adhesion and activation of platelets. Attempts
have been made to improve the blood compatibility of chitosan with physical blends,
surface modification, and synthesis of blood-compatible derivatives.
