Choy's patent application extends to 29 pages, including many diagrams.
The invention is somewhat blandly described in the abstract of the ap-
plication as
An apparatus for providing a virtual reality sexual experience. The
apparatus including audio reproduction means, visual reproduc-
tion means and tactile means for sexual stimulation. [8]
Not exactly everyone's idea of romantic sex, is it? True, the language
of patent documents in general is almost as far as one can get from the
language of romance, hence the following precis of Choy's application
has been edited to make the “patentese” more palatable.
The system (hardware and software) will allow a user to enter a
virtual world and have a sexual experience with a virtual human,
or indeed another real human who is also linked up to the same
virtual world.
In the case of a single user version, the user will be able to select
with whom they wish to interact (a film star for instance). These
virtual actors can be represented as highly detailed graphical images
and the physical contact itself is simulated by use of a life-sized doll,
which is controlled by the software.
In a simplified form the mannequin or doll could be replaced with
artificial versions of human body parts used in sexual activities, for
example artificial male or female genitalia, as well as or replaced by
devices for use in simulating oral sexual activity.
Sensors are provided to be responsive to touch on various portions
of the doll. In addition sensors responsive to movement, temper-
ature, pressure and motion can be provided to initiate a physical
reaction in the mannequin, for example the discharge of lubrica-
tion, the generation of heat and vibration or suction effects.
The artificial sexual organs can be motor driven. For example, in
the case of a male doll the penis could be motorised to respond
to user activity to provide intense stimulation beyond the range of
