Ko Phi Phi
Ko Phi Phi Don (pronounced pee pee) is the largest and only populated island of the Phi
Phi archipelago. The nearest airport is in Krabi, the nearby city on the mainland, with easy
ferryconnections betweenthetwo.Itisanon-motorized islandforthemostpartsoyourbest
bet for getting around is either by foot or by bike and using the wheelbarrows for luggage
transportation. You can also get from one beach to the next via long-tail boat, moored at the
beach for just this reason.
There are many beaches and bays on Phi Phi Don with spectacular scenery that is postcard-
worthy. Be careful of any monkeys you may encounter as they can be aggressive and are
food bandits. A majority of the locals are Muslim so to respect the local culture throw on a
sarong or shorts when you are walking around town rather than just wearing bathing suits.
The best nightlife is in Ton Sai Bay with a variety of musical options like jazz, blues and
classics. Bars stay open until 1am or later on the beach. Accommodation is relatively ex-
pensiveandyouwillbehard-pressedtofindthesamebudgetoptionsasinothercities.There
is camping available in Maya Bay and tents available for rent.
