staying the night at a guesthouse there.
Once you arrive in Mae Hong Son drop your bags and head to the lake Nong Chong Kham
with the temples Wat Chong Klang and Wat Chong Kham, perfect for photo opportunities.
There are many treks and tours offered from the town and it is a common stop for organ-
ized tour groups to pass through. Take your time exploring the town and nearby, there are
caves to explore and you can trek for a day or more through the cloudy mountains. One of
the common excursions is to visit the Padaung hill tribe whose women are known for their
long necks. While you're in town check out the night market where you can see crafts made
by the local tribes.
As you head to the south take a break in Mae Sariang, a quiet relief from the active Pai and
tourist-filled Mae Hong Son. You can soak in the hot springs and dine next to the Yuam
river before you continue back to Chiang Mai.
