Pack
As a modern and global country Thailand has most of the supplies, clothes and goods that
you are used to finding at home. You can save on space and weight for your bags whether
they are backpacks or rolling suitcases and plan to buy things for cheap there if you run out.
For those who will be there for a while don't try to bring of your toiletries, plan to buy some
toothpaste and shampoo when yours runs out. If you are worried about having enough socks
then plan to do laundry halfway through your stay or buy another few pairs.
When traveling far from home it is tempting to bring all of your creature comforts along, the
cute shoes that go with that shirt and a few extra pairs of socks in case you run out. However

your favorite clothes and belongings safe at home. Better to remember the full moon party
as the best party of your life and not when you spent three hours searching the dark beach
for your designer flip flops.
Since shopping is so popular in Thailand and there are so many different things to buy make
sure to leave room in your bags and don't overload them so you have space to bring back
souvenirs and gifts. It will also make traveling to the different regions easier if you are not
carrying forty pounds of books, shoes and conditioner. It is also a good idea to leave some
of your electronics at home to avoid weighing yourself down with camera lenses, chargers
and extra batteries. Just one smart device and a camera with an empty memory card will be
enough.
An important aspect to consider is the weather and what regions you will be visiting. If you
are traveling to the north during the colder season from November to February, the temper-
atures will be at the lowest. For those hiking in the north and visiting mountain tops you will
want to bring extra layers and thicker socks, it can drop to freezing at night. Conversely if
you are on the islands during the hottest months, March to June, then you will want to pack
lightweight clothing that is light in color and dries quickly. If your trip falls during the rainy
season then pack some good rain gear that is breathes, it may be raining but it is still hot
out. Consider picking up an umbrella once you arrive but pack a small rain poncho to tide
you over until you find one. No matter the time of year it is a good idea to bring a hat and
sunblock, good walking shoes and sunglasses.
The most important thing to pack is your spirit of adventure. Thailand is very different from
the western world in a lot ofwonderful ways and insome surprising ways too. Asmuch time
