Thailand is not an expensive country and you can have quite a comfortable trip for a lot less
than in other parts of the world. Depending on your budget you can find accommodation for
as little as $4 a night or as much as a few thousand dollars. Generally speaking a comfort-
able budget is about $50 per day per person. This includes some internal flights to save time
on transportation and some tours and activities, whether it is multi-day hiking trips or scuba
diving in the south. With that budget you can eat some street food but also dine on some of
the nicer offerings in Bangkok and the other cities. You can stay at comfortable guesthouses
and even splurge for a beach bungalow here and there.
If you are on a tighter budget you can certainly travel and enjoy Thailand for less money per
day. It will take more planning and you will take fewer flights and more overnight buses.
Banana pancakes and other street food will be a staple in your diet and dorms will put a roof
over your head. But for travelers who are up to the challenge and enjoy bare bones travel
then Thailand is a great spot to see just how cheap you can go.
