Chapter 2
Let's Start At the Beginning - Planning
Your Trip
Thailand is fairly easy to visit, most nationalities can enter without a visa and stay for up
to a month. You will need a return flight or proof of onward travel from Thailand to assure
authorities that you intend to leave. Your passport must be valid for 6 months from the date
of entry and you need one free visa page for the entry stamp.
There are no recommended vaccinations or medications that you will need to take besides
some calcium forany upset stomachs and a little aspirin forthose hangovers. Pharmacies are
easy to find in big cities should you run out of painkillers from too many drinks the previous
night.
When planning your destinations and activities think about what things or places you abso-
lutely want to see and do, then build the rest of the trip around that. If you are crunched for
time then you may want to consider taking some domestic flights to get between locations.
If you have more flexibility then you can take more side trips and travel slower. On a whim
you can extend your stay and go for the advanced diving course if the open-water scuba cer-
tification went well.

periods of time. Remember that you could face jet lag when flying from North America or
Europe so give yourself a day or two to recover so you can hit the road running later.
