Masking - Part 2: Making Oval Masks
Return your Comp Window to its regular magnification either by pressing the
'Comma' key twice, manually clicking on the Magnification pop-up menu in the
Comp Window, or by double-clicking on the Magnifying Glass icon in the Tool
window floater (double-clicking this icon automatically resets the magnification
to 100%). For this exercise we'll be creating a vignette around the edges of our
project, and we'll be creating it through the use of a simple Solid layer and an
Oval Mask.
1
Add a new Solid color layer
to the Timeline by pressing
'Ctrl
Y'.
2
Select the Eyedropper Tool
next to the color swatch.
3
Float it the over the Comp Window - choose a deep blue color from the
WONK TV box, then click 'OK'.
A full layer of dark blue should now completely obscure the entire project. If,
however, the Solid layer only covers part of the Comp Window, you'll need
to change the Solid's size settings - press 'Ctrl
Y' to re-open the
Solid Footage Settings window, then press the 'Make Comp Size' button and
click 'OK'.
Shift
4
Press 'Q' to activate the Mask
tool in the Tools Window, and
then press it again to cycle to
the Oval Mask tool.
5
Move the mouse cursor over
the Solid colored Comp
Window, then draw an Oval Mask the same way you drew the regular
Mask - click in the window (anywhere in the upper left corner this time),
