Proxy Footage - Use Really Big Files and Not Kill Your
Computer
There is one last File Import function to consider when you have significantly
large and cumbersome files to work upon: Use Proxy Files. Proxy Files are
low-resolution, highly compressed copies of high-resolution uncompressed files,
i.e. Digital Cinema, HD, Print Files, etc.
Even with the accessibility of cheap RAM, you can quickly run out of memory when
using HD or higher resolution file formats. With a Low-Rez Proxy, you can scrub the
Timeline without causing the program to update the Comp Window with such
huge memory demands. At Render time, the Original High-Rez file automatically
replaces their Proxy Files, so your finished project maintains its expected quality.
