In-Depth Information
have the wherewithal, start planting RenderNodes to increase productivity on a
geometric scale.
The following section will offer two scenarios for preparing your projects for
Network Rendering offloading:
Render-Garden - where you have one multi-processor (or HyperThreaded)
machine to run concurrent sessions of After Effects.
Render-Farm - where you have multiple network-connected RenderNodes
working together on complex, deeply layered Comps.
The Render-Garden - When You've Only Got One Machine
Even with what seems like the price of computers dropping every day, many
designers simply can't afford to have multiple computers to work upon. This is
especially true at big corporate IS controlled environments, where asking for an
upgrade is akin to asking for a raise.
If you're one of these 'restricted access to additional machines' people, you can
use your lone machine as a little Render-Garden to expedite project output.
This way you can render while you work on other projects - though this
depends heavily upon the machine you use.
A dual-CPU machine with lots of RAM will perform best with two instances of
After Effects running, though a single-CPU machine with lots of RAM will also
work, just much more hesitantly.
To prepare your machine to run multiple
instances of After Effects, you need to
modify the following:
For Mac-OSX
Make a copy of the Application using a
different name, i.e. 'AEX-NET' or 'After
Effects RenderNode'.
For Windows 2000/XP
1
Right-click on the shortcut link to After Effects and select Properties .
